Man in Grey Suit

Mark Templeton

In 2022, Mark played an integral role in launching the name, image, and likeness (NIL) collective, The Battle’s End (TBE). Prior to its launch—and throughout FSU’s undefeated season that followed—Mark worked closely with TBE to establish it as a force in the NIL era of collegiate sports. During this time, he honed his solution-oriented approach to legal and business issues. After the 13-0 season, Mark began working with athletes and businesses on NIL-related matters, leveraging his understanding of the evolving landscape and business considerations to negotiate contracts.

Before launching TBE, Mark served as general counsel for a Florida-based business. He also worked in the public sector, litigating constitutional issues on behalf of Florida’s CFO. In that role, he successfully extracted the CFO from a challenge to nine figures' worth of appropriations with a successful motion to dismiss.

Mark earned his Juris Doctorate from Florida State University College of Law, where he met Templeton Edwards co-founder, Benjamin Edwards, during their first semester. During law school, he received the Constitutional Law II Book Award, worked as a research assistant for Professor Nat Stern, and interned in the Executive Office of the Governor. He also earned a B.S. in Political Science from FSU.

Ben Edwards

Born in New Orleans and raised in Tampa, Ben graduated from Jesuit High School of Tampa before attending the University of Florida for his undergraduate studies. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he focused on tax law, transactional law, and contracts. During law school, he served as a tax advocate for low-income individuals at the Non-Profit Legal Services of Southern Piedmont in Charlotte.

After law school, Ben practiced tax law for several years, handling state and federal business tax issues. He helped businesses—both small and large—reach equitable resolutions with the IRS and state tax authorities, managing over $10 million in assessed debt during his tenure. In 2018, he transitioned into real estate law and transactions, working in the industry until 2023.

In late 2022, Ben was invited to help launch The Battle’s End (TBE), Florida State’s NIL collective. Being involved in building an NIL entity from the ground up immersed him in the complexities of the NIL world and helped him discover his legal passion. He believes the ever-changing NIL landscape in college sports presents endless opportunities for legal analysis and strategic problem-solving.

Additionally, Ben has experience in Trademark/IP law and Non-Profit law, having handled TBE’s IP filings and 501(c)(3) application process. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, climbing, and exploring with his sons and dog—when he’s not watching college sports.
